Dentures

Dentures

Dentures, whether full or partial, are an all inclusive mouth reconstruction that restores the following oral functions;

  • Aesthetic youthful appearance.
  • Improved speech & pronunciation.
  • Reconstructive facial support.
  • Restored confidence, self-esteem and quality of life.
  • Proper mastication & digestion.

Whether it is your first time needing dentures or you currently have dentures which are old or in need of repair or replacement, do not hesitate to contact a Denture Specialist. Did you know that the Denture Association of Ontario recommends that dentures be replaced every 4 to 5 years?

The ability to evaluate a patient and their individual needs, craft a custom denture and fit the patient for comfort all at one location will save you time and money.

Technology today

With denture technology being the best it has ever been, there is no reason why you should continue suffering without proper dentures. As time passes, loss of facial muscle tone can lead to not only facial pain and temporal mandibular joint disorder, but also severe discomfort when chewing. Decreased chewing efficiency can, in turn, lead to stomach disorders and digestive problems. In addition, when wearing loose, ill fitting, older dentures, you expose yourself to chronic gum irritation and possibly pre-cancerous lesions.

Implants

Implants

Simply put, implants are artificial teeth that are surgically bonded to the jaw bone of a patient with a titanium root implant. Once the implant is placed, we can construct implant retained dentures.

What can Dental Implants do?

  • Replace one or more teeth without affecting surrounding teeth.
  • Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable partial denture.
  • Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.

Soft Liners

Soft Liners

A soft liner is essentially a soft material that is processed into the tissue side of the denture, acting as a barrier between your oral tissue - such as your gums - and the hard plastic layer of your denture. In effect, this assists persons who suffer from sore gums. The soft liner acts as a protective layer for the patient making the denture much more comfortable and fitted.

When should you consider soft liners?

  • If you experience receded, flat or nearly flat gum tissues that cannot withstand the stress of your current dentures.
  • If you experience constant discomfort or irritation on gum tissue.
  • If you have any protruding bones in your gums.

With the rapid improvement in technology and materials for soft liners, virtually everyone is able to withstand and tolerate soft liners as an alternative to pain and discomfort with your dentures. The benefit of having an on-site laboratory means that you will save time and money by choosing Smile by Design for your soft liner needs.

Rebase, Repairs & Relines

Rebase, Repairs & Relines

Rebasing is essentially a general denture service whereby the pink-acrylic portion of your denture is replaced. Your teeth do not move from their position and is usually performed for the following reasons:

  • Broken or damaged dentures.
  • Weakened or old pink denture base.

The process of rebasing simply means that a denture specialist must retrofit your new pink-acrylic base with your old set of teeth due to the changes your body goes through over time. The benefit of having an on-site laboratory means that you will save time and money by choosing Smile by Design for your rebasing needs.

Relines is the process of readjusting your denture to fit properly when you experience some of the following changes that will affect the position and comfort of your denture because of “shrinkage”:

  • Post immediate dentures.
  • Tooth loss.
  • Weight loss.
  • Bone loss in your jaw.
  • Sickness or disease.
  • General physical ageing.

Repairs can restore an existing broken or cracked denture to its original state, even after damage such as breakage, chipping, adding or removing teeth due to extractions or even wear and tear.

If your denture requires a repair, it may be a sign of an underlying problem, including age of the denture, worn teeth, or poor fit. Do not hesitate to seek a professional consultation with a denture specialist.
